On November 5-6, our Training Facilitator, Cris Chua—Lead Trainer, Consultant, and Auditor at Michaels and Grant Business Consulting—conducted a dynamic two-day training for Government Service Insurance System's (GSIS) Officers, Managers, and Senior Executives. This program aimed to empower GSIS leaders with practical skills to better understand and leverage data in their decision-making, making data science accessible and relevant to their roles.
The first day focused on building a strong foundation in data science. Through a mix of lectures, real-world examples, and hands-on exercises, participants explored the fundamentals of data, from identifying different data types to cleaning datasets. The day included interactive group activities, quizzes, and individual exercises using tools like Tableau and Excel, allowing participants to create simple visualizations and better interpret data insights. These exercises helped GSIS leaders gain confidence in understanding and working with data, setting the stage for more advanced applications.
The second day shifted focus to practical applications of data science in a business context. Key sessions covered machine learning for managers, data ethics, and integrating data science into business strategy. Participants engaged in hands-on analysis, calculated basic statistics, and discussed potential machine learning applications within their organization. The day ended with developing a Data Science Roadmap for GSIS, highlighting steps to implement a sustainable, data-driven approach in their daily operations. With practical tools and strategies, GSIS executives are now better equipped to make informed, data-supported decisions.
This training is a significant step toward building a data-driven culture at GSIS, setting the foundation for continued growth and innovation.
